Pilgrimage to Uluru

Know the Past, Change the Future

As part of our commitment to restoring relationships for individuals and communities, we continue to walk alongside our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters, seeking to ’Know the Past, Change the Future’.

Since 2001, Fusion has run the Pilgrimage to Uluru; a journey that gives young people the opportunity to stop, listen and be transformed as they learn of the past, so that they can change the future.

The restrictions on travel in 2021, created opportunity to take a journey closer to home and in April this year, five state-based pilgrimages took place. Rather than journeying to Uluru, busses of young people, leaders and even families hit the road to explore their own states on a mission to better understand the local Aboriginal story.

Although on journeys that were unique to their state, the pilgrims in Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia shared a common experience as they learnt about the history of the people Indigenous to the places they visited, their culture, customs, lifestyle, and even the food they ate then and now. These local journeys grew our understanding of the places we’re from and the history that shaped us and our communities.

In 2023, we hope to once again take a journey to Uluru and invite you to join us on the road.

help young people stop, listen and be transformed as they learn of the past, so they can change the future.
